The Headley-Whitney Museum is a decorative arts museum located in the heart of Kentucky Bluegrass Country. George Headley, founder of the Museum, was a prominent jewelry designer in mid-20th century America as well as a collector of rare and natural objects. Our permanent collection includes many examples of Headley’s jewelry, gemstones and bibelot collection. Additionally, the Museum is home to the Marylou Whitney Estate Dollhouses, more than 1500 books on the decorative and fine arts, and Headley’s collection of objects of curiosity.
In 1973, Headley converted an estate building into a Shell Grotto. The walls, doors, and ceilings are decorated with shells and polished rocks. Even the floor is made of coral. Headley’s shell collection contains specimens from all around the world and is a spectacular sight.
With its beautiful grounds and fantastic collections the Headley-Whitney Museum is a unique and unforgettable experience for all of its visitors.
